Day 4 - February 28th

This morning we woke up to a very snowy and a cold Edinburgh morning. Unfortunately we had plans to go see the Highlands today but that got canceled due to the snow. So our new plan was to walk through Edinburgh with our tour guide. We walked around the streets of Edinburgh in the windy weather and we saw some very interesting things. We saw many statues of people that were in Edinburgh’s history, for example Abraham Lincoln and John Knox. John Knox was the founder of Presbyterianism and was very anti-Catholic. Abraham Lincoln's statue was built in commemoration of six men from Edinburgh who went to America to fight slavery in the Civil War. We went inside a big church called St.Giles Cathedral. It was a beautiful church that was worth seeing. We went up Calton Hill which had view of the city centre and the sea. We took many pictures and saw the different sides of the city. We then walked down Calton Hill and walked on the other side of town. We walked right past the Scottish Parliament which was really cool. Unfortunately now it started to snow even more so most of us were in a rush to go inside and rest. After that we went to have some lunch in a nearby cafe. We were all tired so this was a great time to have some rest and to eat some lunch. We were in there for more than an hour and it was time to go outside again. We then walked backto our hotel through the Cowgate, which was where the cattle drivers used to bring their cows to market in the medieval city.

This was a memorial for Abraham Lincoln and the Scottish  American soldiers that fought in the American civil war

This was the view from Calton Hill

This was the city centre from the bottom of Calton Hill.

This was Victoria Street in Edinburgh, the inspiration for Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter series.
