Day 3 - February 27th

My name is Christopher Matta and I am from Woodbury, Connecticut, a small town about 25 minutes away from Litchfield. The reasoning behind my decision to choose Scotland for a Winterim course is because I’m not very acquainted with the country and I know very little about it from scenery and culture. This Winterim gives me an opportunity to get an in depth look at Scotland as well as being able photograph all of the structures I see. While at this trip I will as well learn to take better pictures, and actually be able to edit and glorify them. I’m very excited to see Edinburgh Castle, see and the history behind it.

For the third day in Scotland instead of walking around the city, we went on a bus tour. For the first stop on our bus tour we hiked up little mountain called North Berwick Law. Though it took the group a long time to get to the top, we all still made it and were able to take some ideal pictures, as well a group shot at the top.  For the second stop on the trip we saw Tantallon Castle. The castle is right on the ocean with beautiful green grass covering the area. There I was able to take very elegant pictures with the gorgeous green grass, with the ocean and castle all at once. So it was wonderful seeing the castle with exception of the wind blowing into all of our faces. The castle was more than fun.

For lunch, we went to an amazing local “chippy” called North Berwick Fry. “Chippies” are fish and chip shops, and they had a food called deep fried pizza which was absolutely delicious and unusual at the same time.  The next castle we saw was Dirleton Castle.  This castle, just like Tantallon, was extremely beautiful; we took a group shot on the bridge right in front of the castle. It was very interesting to see the insides of the castle. We even saw ancient scratch marks where the soldiers guarding the gate would sharpen their swords against the stone. When looking at these castles it's absolutely fascinating to look at them and just imagine how people could actually live in these dense areas in such cold weather.  Overall, this day was amazing.  We ended it again with another seafood restaurant where I had delicious salmon and mussels. The day was great, and we’re on to the next adventure tomorrow.
